SIMRIT with the Live Room Orchestra at Gramercy Theatre
For the first time ever, Simrit joins a live orchestra for a one-night-only immersive experience in New York City, where her evocative and healing music will be reimagined through expansive orchestral arrangements. Simrit will perform with the Live Room Orchestra under the direction of award-winning composer and conductor Jackson A. Waters on October 18th at 7pm.
ARTZenter Institute Composer Grant Winner
San Francisco Contemporary Music Players premieres Jackson A. Waters’ new piece at Herbst Theatre on June 9, 2026 as ARTZenter Composer Grant Winner. ARTZenter Institute is a grant program with the SF Contemporary Music Players, encouraging the creation of new music that explores the power and grace of the traditional orchestral ensemble. The fund is committed to creating chamber orchestra workshops, mentorship and performance opportunities for young composers nationwide.
Cabrillo Festival Composer-in-Residence Winner '26-'27
Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music has named composer Jackson A. Waters as the recipient of the 2025 Emerging Black Composer Project (EBCP) Cabrillo Festival Prize. As part of the award, Cabrillo Festival has commissioned him to write a new work to be premiered during the Festival’s 2027 season and will present Waters’ orchestral work Defending Greenwood.
Jon Deak First Music Grand Prize Winner
Jackson is commissioned by the New York Youth Symphony to write a new chamber piece for their grammy-winning ensemble with three premieres, one at Carnegie Hall, another in collaboration with the dance studio Emerge125, and a final premiere at Interlochen Center for the arts in 2026.
Mae-Deup (매ë“) - A Multi-Sensory Exhibition

Live Room Music LLC

By breaking away from centuries-old formalities, Live Room showcases artists from different genres collaborating with classical ensembles in intimate venues.

Defending Greenwood - Orchestra Premiere
Jackson A. Waters' (Steinhardt Class of 2024) orchestral symphony Defending Greenwood was written in dedication to the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Inspired by history passed down from his mother, Jackson wants to shed light on tragedies ignored by his childhood curriculum. NYU Orchestra debuted the third movement of his piece on Tuesday, April 9 at the Skirball Center.
